Learning to Live (Occasional Papers)

Occasional Papers are program descriptions of Transitional Therapeutic Communities and social learning projects Dennie Briggs initiated or participated in.

In the Navy recounts two such communities conducted in US Naval Hospitals for sailors and marines involved in the post-Korean War, admitted for stress related conditions (psychoses, neuroses, behavior disorders, etc).

In Prison reports the establishment of communities at California’s prisons culminating in a comprehensive program in lieu of building an additional prison for 1,200 inmates.

In School portrays the application of social learning in a variety of elementary and secondary schools, and at university level. Two total school experiments illustrate social learning with peer teaching, daily planning & discussion groups.
